Getting started with NorthDNS
Create an account, add your domain and delegate it to the NorthDNS nameservers in a few minutes.
What you need
- A domain registered with a registrar (Namecheap, GoDaddy, OVH, Gandi…).
- Access to the registrar panel to change nameservers.
- A NorthDNS account: free and without approval during the open beta.
1. Create an account
Sign up at northdns.it/register with email and password, or with Google or GitHub. Confirm your email address and enable two-factor authentication or a passkey from Account.
2. Add your domain
In the console choose Add domain and enter the name without www (e.g. example.com). If the domain is on Cloudflare or another DNS host, import its BIND zone file from the DNS page to bring over every record.
3. Review the records
Before switching nameservers, make sure the records you rely on exist: website (A/AAAA or CNAME), email (MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC) and third-party verifications (TXT). Anything missing stops working after delegation.
4. Delegate the domain
At your registrar, replace the current nameservers with ns1.northdns.it and ns2.northdns.it. See Delegating a domain for details.
5. Verify
NorthDNS checks the delegation automatically every few minutes and notifies you when it is active. Propagation depends on the registrar and resolvers: usually a few hours, up to 48.
After delegation
- Turn on the HTTPS proxy for your website records.
- Set up email on your domain.
- Enable DNSSEC to protect DNS answers.
