Email with your own domain: mailboxes, webmail and setup

Create custom email addresses on your own domain: MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC in one click, webmail, IMAP and SMTP for phones and mail clients.

Requirements

The domain must be delegated to NorthDNS, which is needed to publish the mail records and the DKIM key. The number of mailboxes and their storage depend on the domain’s plan.

1. Set up mail DNS

Open the domain → Email → Configure automatically. NorthDNS creates the MX, SPF and DMARC records and generates the DKIM key (mail._domainkey) used to sign outgoing mail. If records from another provider already exist, the panel flags them instead of overwriting them.

2. Create mailboxes

From Email create a mailbox by choosing a name (e.g. info) and a password of at least 12 characters. NorthDNS never stores or shows the password. Each new mailbox receives a welcome message with its settings.

Webmail

Sign in at mail.northdns.it with the full address and password, or use Open Roundcube next to the mailbox in the panel. Webmail lets you manage folders and filters.

Mail clients and phones

ServiceServerPortSecurity
IMAPimap.northdns.it993SSL/TLS
SMTPsmtp.northdns.it587STARTTLS

Username: the full address. On iPhone, iPad and Mac you can download an automatic configuration profile with Autoconfigure.

Aliases and automatic replies

On the Email page, under Aliases and forwarding, you can create extra addresses such as info@ or sales@ that deliver to an existing mailbox on the same domain without using another mailbox. Out-of-office replies are set from webmail, in Settings.

Sending limits

To protect the servers’ reputation each mailbox can send up to 30 messages per minute and 300 per hour. Beyond that, sending is deferred temporarily. Bulk mail, spam and phishing are prohibited by the Terms.
